The Aero SDLT family of half inch streaming tape drives efficiently performs data backup for mid-range and high-end network servers. The ASDLT-320 and 600 offer an unparalleled capacity of 320 and 600GB per cartridge with compression, and are capable of sustained noncompressed data transfer rates of 32 and 36MB/second respectively.

Backup with an Emphasis on Performance and Capacity

The Aero SDLT family features new, innovative Advanced Metal Particle Media which embeds optical servo tracks onto the back of the tape freeing up 100% of the magnetic side for data. SDLTs also feature Laser Guided Magnetic Recording for the best of both optical and magnetic technologies. All drives are built with performance proven high-efficiency data compression technology that supports various block sizes, and a tape mark directory to minimize data access time. An adaptive cache buffering system automatically accommodates slower host data rates for minimized tape repositioning. All Aero SDLTs are backward read compatible with previous generations of SDLT drives.

SDLT tape technology, coupled with a PerifiTech SCSI Enhancement Kit, optimize the server's SCSI I/O, allowing the tape drive to run at speeds that reach the system's full data transfer rate potential. With normal operating conditions and Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve, Aero SDLTs can backup a Windows 2003 server at speeds in excess of 300 GB per hour. Similar backup and restore speeds are achieved in Unix and Novell environments.

Reliability and Data Integrity

All Aero SDLT feature powerful Reed Solomon ECC error correction: 64-bit Cyclical Redundancy Check (CRC) on each 4K of data on the media and end-to-end 16-bit CRC on each record, overlapped with SCSI parity checking on the SCSI bus and internal data paths. These features result in an unequaled hard error rate of 1 error in 10²⁷ bits. Other critical reliability specifications include a head life of up to 30,000 hours, media usage averaging up to 1,000,000 passes, and an MTBF of up to 250,000 hours.

Data Warehousing

PerifiTech's family of SDLT autoloaders integrate multiple SDLT tape engines within rack mount or tower chassis for maximum flexibility. With 8, 16, 25 and 50 tape magazine options, SDLT Autoloaders provide over a Terabyte of unattended backup capacity that can be connected directly or via a SAN.

Aero SDLTs are supported solutions for Windows, Netware and Unix environments. Through Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve, Aero SDLTs are supported under most variants of Unix and Linux including SUN/Solaris, HP/UX and IBM/AIX.
